Rubio, Pence to campaign together in Florida

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence are set to campaign together in Florida.

An aide told ABC News the two will appear together on the trail in the Sunshine State sometime over the next few weeks. Schedule specifics are still being figured out.

According to the Tuesday report, Rubio, who decided to jump back into the race late, and Pence, the governor of Indiana, have regularly talked over the phone.

Teaming up with Rubio on the campaign trail in Florida would be Pence’s latest attempt to get high-profile Republicans to more strongly support their presidential nominee, Donald Trump. So far, Pence has met privately with John McCain and Jeb Bush, and reached out to John Kasich and Ted Cruz.

Rubio and Trump clashed during the GOP primary, but after losing Florida to Trump by a large margin, Rubio ended his campaign and endorsed Trump. But Rubio has said he will not make any personal appearances with Trump, and only attended the Republican National Convention via video address.

“Not that I’m looking to undermine him, but I think the differences between us on key issues are so significant that I don’t plan — I’ve got to run my own race,” Rubio said on CNN in June.

In Florida, a RealClearPolitics average of polls gives Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton a small lead over Trump, 45.6-42 percent.

Rubio leads his potential Democratic opponent Rep. Patrick Murphy by 6 points, according to NBC/WSJ/Marist.
