Incoming P.G. prosecutor says firings coming ‘at some point’

Angela Alsobrooks, the incoming state’s attorney in Prince Georges County, says she has been interviewing young attorneys for new jobs at the Upper Marlboro courthouse.

But although Alsobrooks said she has no plans to fire any current prosecutors “at this point,” she admitted that could change after she assesses the effectiveness of the state’s attorney office.

“There are people as we go along who we will find won’t be a great fit,” she said Wednesday, “and so you know of course we’re going to have to at some point let go of people. But the strategy really is looking at each of the divisions and making sure we have the right talent in those divisions.”

About 70 people work in the office, she said.

Alsobrooks, taking over from outgoing state’s attorney Glenn Ivey, will be sworn in as the county’s top prosecutor Monday at a private ceremony. On Tuesday, a public investiture is scheduled.
