The rodent that fell from the ceiling of the White House press briefing room Tuesday has so far evaded capture, leading an animal rights group to ask that the rodent be captured and released rather than exterminated.
Since efforts to capture the mouse were unsuccessful after it landed on the lap of NBC News White House correspondent Peter Alexander on Tuesday, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a statement Thursday that said it was “rushing” over a “humane mousetrap” so that the White House mouse is not killed.
“The White House is this mouse’s house, too, but we’d rather that she be evicted than eviscerated, so we’re providing a humane trap that allows her to be put outdoors safely,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk.
“Effective rodent-control measures are those that keep smart, gentle mice out of glue traps and reporters’ laps without harming them,” she added.
The release also said that the group is sending over a copy of a tip sheet titled Living in Harmony with House Mice and Rats and was “willing to provide many more humane traps, if necessary.”
It remains unclear if the mouse is still scurrying about the White House or has been killed.
The Washington Examiner reached out to PETA but did not immediately receive a response.
