The Columbia Association announced the winners of its annual Spirit of Columbia Scholarship Award. The Howard County winners receive $2,500 toward college tuition.
The winners were recognized for their strong devotion to their community. They are:
» Brittany Dunbar, of Harper?s Choice. She is a member of the National Honor Society at Wilde Lake High School, a tutor, a Student Government Association member and an active volunteer.
» Laura Hamilton, of Owen Brown. She is involved in the Student Government Association and National Honor Society at Oakland Mills High School, and she volunteers for the Appalachia Service Project.
» Anisha Mehta, of River Hill. She was a Girl Scout, a teen representative to the River Hill Village Board and a Howard County General Hospital volunteer.
» Travis Payne of Hickory Ridge. He was president of the Future Educators of America club and a member of the National Honor Society at Atholton High School.
» Steven Schapiro, of Kings Contrivance. He has been very involved in Boy Scouts and volunteers as an emergency medical technician with the Savage Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the National Honor Society at Hammond High School.
» Debbie Schub, of Hickory Ridge. She participated in student government activities at Atholton High School and is president of the Howard County Association of Student Councils.
