Bill de Blasio outlines policy priorities as he enters Democratic primary

Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, 58, announced Thursday he is running in the Democratic primary.

De Blasio outlined several policy issues he would prioritize, such as guaranteed healthcare that includes mental health, free pre-K for all, and paid sick leave.

“As president I will take on the wealthy, I will take on the big corporations, and I will not rest until this government serves working people,” he said in an announcement video released Thursday called “Working People First.”

Additionally, he took a swipe at President Trump and said that the president “must be stopped.”

“I’m a New Yorker. I’ve known Trump’s ability for a long time. This is not news to me or anyone else here, and I know how to take him on,” de Blasio said.

De Blasio is one of more than 20 candidates running in the Democratic primary. He joins candidates including former Vice President Joe Biden, Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and Kamala Harris of California.
