‘SNL’ spoofs ‘Vape God’ interview with Laura Ingraham

Saturday Night Live” covered “Vape God” this week, making fun of Fox News’ Laura Ingraham for having a blogger on her show posing as a millennial vaping advocate.

Barstool Sports’ Tom Scibelli, a 22-year-old who online goes by the name “Tommy Smokes,” was invited on “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday night after doing a satire Instagram video showing him doing tricks with an e-cigarette known as a Juul. During that segment, he talked about how cool vaping is — touting how he likes “blowing a fat cloud” — while debating Janette Nesheiwat, a doctor who spoke of the health risks of vaping.

This week’s cold opening imagined part two of that interview with “SNL” cast member Pete Davidson playing Scibelli, wearing a “Vape God” hat, taking big puffs, blowing smoke, and making outlandish comments — just like in the real interview.

“Your not trolling me, right?” Kate McKinnon, reprising her role as Ingraham, asked. “You’re a real expert on e-cig laws?”

“Oh for sure,” Davidson replied. “I got that swag. I got that drip drip.”

After McKinnon questioned whether her producers did an adequate job vetting him as a guest and noted that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s appearance was bumped for him, Davidson said, “And you made the right choice, because my puff puff game: dilly dilly.”

“Finally a millennial who is speaking my language,” McKinnon replied.

After Thursday’s interview, Scibelli explained the reaction backstage, noting that one person said his performance was reminiscent of an “SNL” skit.

In a blog post he said a producer applauded him for “trending on Twitter” while an unnamed women asked for his full name and asked someone else, “Who vetted this kid? Did we do any research on him.”
