Officer says he didn’t contaminate Levy crime scene

A U.S. Park Police lieutenant was questioned Thursday afternoon about Chanda Levy’s remains and other evidence at the crime scene after her skull was spotted by a man walking his dog in Rock Creek Park in May 2002.

Lt. Dennis Bosak was the first officer on the scene. Then a sergeant, Bosak on Thursday recalled seeing items that included a black garment, the  sole of a sneaker, a sock and a radio cassette player.

Both U.S. Attorney Amanda Haines and defense attorney Santha Sonenberg questioned Bosak on whether the crime scene was disturbed. Bosak said the only item that was disturbed was Levy’s skull, which he touched with his police baton to examine it.

Investigators say Ingmar Guandique raped and killed Levy while she was jogging in Rock Creek Park on May 1, 2000. Guandique is on trial in D.C. Superior Court, charged with Levy’s murder.
