Authorities are looking into the death of former White House national security adviser H.R. McMaster’s father amid allegations of institutional neglect.
The elder McMaster, H.R. McMaster Sr., died last week at Cathedral Village Retirement Community in Philadelphia, where the 84-year-old had been receiving care following a stroke.
He allegedly died after he fell and hit his head, but authorities are investigating whether there was institutional neglect occurred after staff members notified his family that the records of his death had been falsified.
The matter, deemed suspicious by authorities, is being examined by the the Philadelphia police, the district attorney’s office, and other agencies.
Cathedral Village said it is complying with the investigation and contacted the Department of Health the same day the elder McMaster died.
“We remain committed to the safety and welfare of all our residents and have made every effort to cooperate,” a spokesperson said, according to WPVI, a local ABC affiliate.
The younger McMaster left his White House post earlier this month. He was replaced by former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton as national security adviser.
