Sen. Ted Cruz responded to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s call for his resignation by calling her a liar and saying he has no plans to resign from his Senate seat.
“@AOC You are a liar,” the Texas Republican tweeted after Ocasio-Cortez blamed him for the chaos on Capitol Hill earlier this week that left multiple dead.
“Leading a debate in the Senate on ensuring election integrity is doing our jobs, and it’s in no way responsible for the despicable terrorists who attacked the Capitol yesterday,” Cruz said.
Cruz added that he intends to remain in the Senate to fight policies pushed by Ocasio-Cortez and her “socialist buddies.”
“I will fight that every step & stand with the People,” the senator said.
2/2 …try to massively raise taxes, when you try to pass the green new deal & destroy millions of jobs, when you push for amnesty, when you try to pack the Supreme Court w/ activists to undermine our Constitutional rights…
I will fight that every step & stand with the People.

In a statement, Cruz condemned the violence and maintained that the “millions of Americans who have peacefully expressed their deep concerns regarding election integrity deserve to have their voices heard.”
Ocasio-Cortez responded to Cruz’s tweet by posting a screenshot purportedly showing one of his campaign’s communications to donors raising money in connection with the overall push by conservatives to challenge the results of the November election.
“Oh – you’re accusing me of lying?” Ocasio-Cortez asked. “Isn’t this you? Your campaign sent out this fundraising message as people were sieging the Capitol. You claimed to be ‘leading the fight to reject electors.’”
“Clashes started around 1:20pm,” she continued. “This message was sent after the Capitol was breached.”
Ocasio-Cortez then reiterated her call for Cruz to resign.
Your complete refusal to acknowledge any of the above harm, wrongdoing, or even misjudgement; & your lack of any self-reflection in how these acts contributed to yesterday’s chaos is alarming. It is unbecoming of any elected official and makes you unfit for the office you occupy.

Tens of thousands of Trump supporters gathered at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday to object to Congress certifying the election results in several states, citing allegations of voter fraud. But the largely peaceful event earlier in the day turned violent when a number of rioters breached the Capitol building.
Lawmakers were forced to evacuate, windows were smashed, congressional offices were ransacked, a Trump supporter was shot and killed by police, a police officer was killed, and three people died from what have been described as “medical emergencies.”
