Authorities in Texas have opened an investigation into the vandalizing of a state chapter office of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The Austin Police Department said the organization’s Austin headquarters was broken into early Sunday morning.

Chapter President Nelson Linder said its members arrived to the office at East 11th Street near Waller Street, in East Austin, Sunday morning and found items missing from the building, as well as a smashed front window, which has since been boarded up.

Linder said computers were stolen, which were found smashed outside of the headquarters, and a number of other items are still missing. He also told local reporters that the office regularly receives hate calls, as well as other types of personal attacks.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Linder thanked Austin police for their communication with his NAACP chapter, saying in part: “Everyone I have communicated with today from the Austin Police Department has been professional, helpful and responsive. This morning was a small matter of communication. Things are clear and moving forward.”

Authorities have yet to reveal a motive for the break-in.
