White House aide: Trump’s immigration order shouldn’t surprise anyone

Top White House aide Stephen Miller said Monday that the temporary immigration ban from seven Muslim-majority countries shouldn’t surprise anyone because President Trump is doing what he promised to do on the campaign trail.

Miller, speaking on Fox News, said Trump campaigned on stopping refugees from coming into the country, particularly Muslims, “until we can figure out what the Hell is going on.” He’s following through on those promises, Miller said.

“This has been something President Trump campaigned on, that he promised he would do and that the American people overwhelmingly supported,” Miller said.

According to a poll done three weeks ago, 48 percent of U.S. voters are in favor of Trump’s plan, and 42 percent are opposed.

Miller said the countries currently on the list were taken from an Obama administration travel warning list and the administration will consider adding more countries during the 90-day window the executive order to come up with a new system.

He said the executive order is all about providing more security to Americans.

“Our task in this new administration is to prevent from what happened in parts of France, Belgium and Germany from happening in the United States,” Miller said. “We have to act now to prevent that from happening tomorrow.”
