‘SNL’ tackles Kavanaugh hearing: ‘The monsters on this committee makes me want to puke — and not from beer!’

Saturday Night Live” began its 44th season with a cold open that focused on last week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Portraying the judge was actor Matt Damon, who mimicked Kavanaugh’s forceful testimony defending himself against the accusations before Republican and Democratic senators. The skit included a lot of sniffing and talk of a “con job orchestrated by the Clintons and George Soros and Kathy Griffin and Mr. Ronan Sinatra,” “beautiful, creepy calendars,” and beer.

Calling himself a “keg is half-full” optimist, Damon’s Kavanaugh expressed his love of beer. “I like beer, okay? I like beer. Boys like beer. Girls like beer. I like beer. I like beer!” he said at one point.

He also said, “the monsters on this committee makes me want to puke — and not from beer.”

During the hearing Thursday, Kavanaugh admitted to liking beer, but denied he ever drank too much to the point of blacking out.

Christine Blasey Ford, one of Kavanaugh’s accusers who testified before the judge did at Thursday’s hearing, was not included in the skit. But several of the senators present were portrayed, as was prosecutor Rachel Mitchell, who struggled to get a question in during the skit.

Among the performances was a fiery Sen. Lindsey Graham, portrayed by SNL’s Kate McKinnon, and turns by Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, played by cast member Alex Moffat, and ranking member Diane Feinstein, played by cast member Cecily Strong.

Mitchell was portrayed by SNL cast member Aidy Bryant and SNL alum Rachel Dratch made an appearance as Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.
