Arizona and Nevada voters believe they would be better off with GOP winning Congress: Poll

Voters in Arizona and Nevada believe they would be better off with Republicans taking control of Congress in the midterm elections, a new poll indicates.

In both Arizona and Nevada, 47% of likely voters believe they would be better off should the Republicans win control of Congress, whereas only 40% and 36%, respectively, believe they would be worse off, according to a new poll released by CNN on Thursday.

Republican candidates for governor and the Senate hold the lead in Nevada, whereas in Arizona, Democratic candidates hold the edge, according to the same poll.

In the Nevada races, both Republicans Adam Laxalt and Joe Lombardo hold a 2-percentage-point lead, 48% to 46%, over Democratic incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto in the Senate race and incumbent Steve Sisolak in the gubernatorial race, respectively.

Laxalt has led Cortez Masto in every major poll since the beginning of September, with an average polling lead of 2.1 points per RealClearPolitics. RCP has rated the race as a “toss up.”

In the gubernatorial race, Lombardo has led or been tied with Sisolak in every major poll since the end of August, holding an average polling lead of 1.6 points, per RCP. RCP has rated the race as a “toss up.”

In the Arizona races, Democratic incumbent Mark Kelly holds a 6% lead over Republican Blake Masters in the Senate race, with 51% of likely voters saying they would vote for him. Democrat Katie Hobbs holds a 3% lead over Republican Kari Lake, with 49% of likely voters saying they plan to cast their vote for Hobbs.

The polls were conducted before Kelly and Masters faced off in a debate Thursday night. Kelly has led Masters in every major poll of the general election cycle, but Kelly’s polling average lead has shrunk to 4.1 points, down from 6.2 points on Sept. 27, per RCP. RCP has rated the race as a “toss up.”

The National Republican Senatorial Committee announced Thursday it would make a “seven-figure investment” Thursday, after seeing Masters lagging behind Kelly.

With the gubernatorial race, Lake holds an average polling lead of 1.1 points over Hobbs, per RCP, with different polls going in favor of both candidates. RCP has rated the race as a “toss up.”

The poll in Arizona was conducted from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2 with 795 likely voters, with a margin of error of 4.6 points. In Nevada, the poll was conducted during the same time period with 828 likely voters, with a margin of error of 5 points.
