The New York Times and National Public Radio both referred to Friday’s March for Life in Washington by using the term “anti-abortion rights” to describe the event and the people who attended.
In a New York Times piece on Friday titled “Trump administration threatens California over abortion,” author Pam Belluck described the march as an “annual anti-abortion rights demonstration.”
Author Sarah McCammon joined the New York Times by describing the crowd as “anti-abortion rights activists” in an article titled “President Trump to face friendly crowd at March for Life.”
Tens of thousands descended on the National Mall both to protest abortion and celebrate life during the 47th annual march that featured a speech from Trump.
“They are coming after me because I am fighting for you, and we are fighting for those who have no voice. And we will win because we know how to win,” Trump, who became the first president in history to attend the event, told the crowd.
Trump has endeared himself to abortion opponents during his presidency. In 2019, the Trump administration announced that family planning clinics will not be able to receive federal Title X funding if they refer women to abortion providers.
Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, performed 345,672 abortions in 2019, which was 12,915 more than in 2018.
