Trump’s first-year average approval rating record low

President Trump’s first-year approval rating is the lowest out of any elected president since John F. Kennedy, according to a new poll released Monday.

The poll from Gallup puts Trump’s average approval rating during the first year of his presidency at 38.4 percent—more than 10 percentage points lower than the first-year averages of his elected predecessors.

Former President Bill Clinton is the only other president whose approval rating during his first year in office averaged below 50 percent. According to Gallup, Clinton’s first-year approval rating was 49.3 percent.

Kennedy, by contrast, enjoyed a first-year average approval rating of 76.4 percent, the highest of elected presidents.

In addition to having the lowest first-year average approval rating, Trump’s yearly approval rating is also among the 10 worst for any president since 1945.

The Gallup poll of 175,710 adults was conducted from Jan. 20 to Jan. 21, with a margin of error of 1 percentage point.
