Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren leaves network

Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren has left her post after 14 years on air, the network’s new co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine announced Tuesday.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Van Susteren said Fox News “has not felt like home to me for a few years.”

“I took advantage of the clause in my contract which allows me to leave now,” she said. “The clause had a time limitation, meaning I could not wait.”

Fox News’ Brit Hume will take over immediately as host of Van Susteren’s show “On The Record” through Election Day.

“I am happy to take on this assignment for the balance of this extraordinary election,” Hume said in a statement released by the network. “My colleagues have set a high standard for political coverage which I’ll do my best to uphold.”

Abernethy and Shine said they are “grateful for Greta’s many contributions over the years and wish her continued success” while touting Hume as “one of the best political analysts in the industry” and “the ideal choice to host a nightly political program while the most dynamic and captivating election in recent history unfolds.”

Van Susteren’s departure came hours after Fox reached a $20 million settlement with former anchor Gretchen Carlson, who accused ousted chief Roger Ailes of sexual harassment before she left the network earlier this summer. The network also offered Carlson a public apology “for the fact that [she] was not treated with respect and dignity that she and all of our colleagues deserve.
