Scalise slams Waters for inciting violence: ‘I was shot because of this kind of dangerous rhetoric’

Rep. Steve Scalise slammed Rep. Maxine Waters, accusing her of using the same kind of rhetoric that resulted in him getting shot.

“I was shot because of this kind of dangerous rhetoric,” Scalise said. “Where is the outrage from Dems & the media? They need to condemn this.”

“Let’s be clear: Maxine Waters knew her rhetoric would incite violence in Minneapolis — but she doesn’t care, she just requests police escorts for herself,” he said.

Scalise was nearly fatally wounded when James T. Hodgkinson, a supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders, stormed and opened fire on Republicans who were practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game in 2017.

MCCARTHY WARNS PELOSI TO TAKE ACTION ON MAXINE WATERS ‘INCITING VIOLENCE IN MINNEAPOLIS,’ OR HE WILL

Waters traveled to Minnesota on Saturday and told protesters to “stay in the streets” and “get more confrontational” if the jury in the trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin doesn’t find him guilty in the death of George Floyd.

“We’re looking for a guilty verdict, and we’re looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd. If nothing does not happen, then we know that we got to not only stay in the street, but we have got to fight for justice,” Waters said.

The remarks were widely condemned by Republicans, who accused the lawmaker of attempting to incite violence.

Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has pressed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to punish Waters for the remarks, promising to bring action himself if Pelosi does not act.

“Maxine Waters is inciting violence in Minneapolis — just as she has incited it in the past. If Speaker Pelosi doesn’t act against this dangerous rhetoric, I will bring action this week,” McCarthy tweeted Sunday.
