Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti booed at Dodgers home opener

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was booed on Friday while attending the Dodgers home opener.

The mayor, who was there to help raise the team’s 2020 World Series championship banner on a flagpole behind center field, was met with a less-than-positive reaction when his name was announced to the stadium.

At the pregame ceremony, the team also received its rings recognizing its win in the 2020 World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Standing next to the mayor was Los Angeles City Councilman Gil Cedillo; Jaime Jarrin, the Spanish language broadcaster for the Dodgers; Billie Jean King, tennis legend and an owner of the Dodgers; and Magic Johnson, a former NBA star; and another Dodgers owner.

The Dodgers were facing off against the Washington Nationals at the home opener in Los Angeles.
