The Channel Guide With Channel 38 at Riot Act, Sunday There’s a new variety show about to hit the airwaves. Or the inter-webs. Or however people consume entertainment nowadays.
Meet the Channel Guide, an innovative entertainment show designed to promote Channel 38, an equally innovative entertainment platform.
“To some extent, we’re still exploring what it is,” said Jesse Sommer, co-founder of the event and the platform.
Perhaps some explaining is necessary.
On Sunday at Riot Act, catch the Channel Guide, a variety show featuring comedy, music and in-depth interviews with local celebrities Marion Barry and Nina Hartley. Comedic acts include Kevin Barnett and Ben Wienberg, and hip-hop artist Phil Ade will perform.
The idea behind the Channel Guide is to combine entertainment with legitimate interviews covering a wide range of subjects. Or, as Sommer put it, it’s like “The Chappelle Show” meets “Meet the Press.”
Channel 38 is a web platform that The Channel Guide folks are developing. The idea is to create a go-to site for high-quality web-based entertainment, such as the show you’ll see Sunday at Riot Act, which will be recorded and used to promote the website.
Got it?
Sommer, along with pals Josiah Young and Randal Seriguchi, are all recent American University law school grads. However, the three want to do more than venture down the traditional law path.
“While there’s certainly a lot we want to do with our law degrees, it’s not in the conventional direction of law,” Sommer said.
Instead, the three are diving head first into something new.
“What we’re saying is, check us out,” Sommer said.
