North Korea on Wednesday officially criticized President Trump’s decision to exit the Paris climate change agreement.
Trump’s decision represents “the height of egoism and moral vacuum seeking only their own well-being, even at the cost of the entire planet,” the North Korean government said, according to CNN.
“The selfish act of the U.S. does not only have grave consequences for the international efforts to protect the environment but poses great danger to other areas as well,” said a spokesman for North Korea’s foreign ministry.
Tensions between the two countries are higher than ever given Pyongyang’s continuing illegal ballistic missile tests and nuclear arms development. Yet, North Korea is a signatory to the Paris climate change agreement.
Trump bowed out of the Paris Agreement last Thursday, calling it an unfair deal for the United States, joining Nicaragua and Syria as the only countries not a party to the nonbinding deal.
Since then, Trump has come under intense criticism from world leaders, U.S. state governors, a federation of Democratic and Republican mayors, and many large businesses.
