#SafeNotStranded: Groups plan rally against Trump-era ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy

Multiple organizations have joined forces to organize a rally Tuesday to protest the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy, which dictates that those coming to the U.S. southern border to seek asylum must stay in Mexico until their court date.

Families Belong Together, along with the Justice Action Center and fwd.us, organized the event, called #SafeNotStranded, in an effort to protest the policy.

The Supreme Court agreed to review the policy, otherwise known as the Migrant Protection Protocols, after a request from the Biden administration, who says it “exposes migrants to unacceptable risks.”

The rally will be held in front of the court Tuesday with the goal of restoring “a humane immigration system.”

According to an advertisement for the event, the policy has subjected migrants to “the abject horrors of dangerous conditions, kidnapping, rape, and worse.”

“With far-reaching implications beyond immigration, we need the Supreme Court to make the right call and respect the integrity of millions of people who have rejected Trump’s failed policies in 2018 and 2020. It is time to restore respect in our immigration system,” it reads.

The organizations further called the policy “cruel, barbaric, and contrary to the law and our values.”
