Heidi Cruz: Ted ready for long-term policy battle

Ted Cruz’s wife said the former presidential candidate has an “enormous agenda” to carry out when he returns to the Senate later this month, and compared his fight to the battle against slavery the country faced in the 19th century.

“Be full of faith and so full of joy that this team was chosen to fight a long battle. Think that slavery — it took 25 years to defeat slavery. That is a lot longer than four years. We are full of energy … We’re going to keep moving forward,” Heidi Cruz said.

Heidi Cruz told members of the former presidential candidate’s national prayer team the campaign’s ending last week was “just the beginning” in the couple’s fight to reform the Republican Party, but did not specify details for what he will do in the next two and a half years of his term.

“It was our first national race, but we have changed the Republican Party by Ted being in the Senate and Ted running this race,” Cruz said, according to a report. “This is no longer about the establishment and the old way of doing things versus the Constitution. This party is now being deceived, but the old battles are behind us, the new ones are before us.”

Mrs. Cruz also indicated they will meet with “every single person” on their leadership team “probably” on a weekly basis through the next four years.

The Cruzes have met with campaign officials over the past week since losing in Indiana’s primary.
