LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — The annual meeting of Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corp. is expected to draw 10,000 people to the Cajundome in Lafayette this weekend.

SLEMCO’s 76th annual meeting is to open at 6 a.m. Saturday. And, The Lafayette Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/11e1p7l), it takes on a festival atmosphere with live music.

There will be face painting; and Troy Landry, of the History Channel TV show “Swamp People,” will make an appearance.

But there also will be business to attend to for an organization with more than 100,000 customers in Acadia, Avoyelles, Evangeline, Iberia, St. Landry, St. Martin, Vermilion and Lafayette parishes.

Company spokeswoman Mary Laurent says one purpose of the event is to inform customers about SLEMCO — its goals, the state of its infrastructure and plans for hurricane season.
