A D.C. police officer was arrested for allegedly shooting his wife with his service weapon during a fight at their Prince George’s County home Saturday, according to charging documents.
D.C. police officer Elijah Shahid, 34, was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon with intent to injure and two counts of second-degree assault, according to Prince George’s County police.
His wife, Patricia Shahid, also with the D.C. police department, suffered a gunshot wound in the left thigh and was hobbling on crutches Tuesday, police sources said. She is a lieutenant.
Shortly after midnight Saturday, in the Shahid’s home in the 2400 block of Valley Way, Patricia Shahid’s daughter heard someone gagging and calling for help, according to a probable cause affidavit.
When the daughter ran to her mother’s bedroom, she saw her stepfather, Elijah Shahid, on top of her mother and choking her, according to the affidavit.
When the daughter ran to help her mother, Elijah Shahid struck the daughter in the head with a closed fist, according to the report.
Elijah Shahid then went to the bedroom closet and pulled out his service weapon, a Glock 9 mm, and fired once, striking his wife of 10 years in the thigh,according to the report. Elijah Shahid wrapped a belt around his wife’s leg to render aid as her granddaughter called 911, according to the report.
Police found a Glock behind a small refrigerator in the bedroom.
Patricia Shahid was taken to the hospital and was treated and released.
Metropolitan Police Department officials said Tuesday they have placed Elijah Shahid on administrative leave and have revoked his police powers. He’s been with the department for nearly eight years.
Elijah Shahid remains in jail and awaits a bond hearing today.
