Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard sent a heartfelt message to U.S. service members past and present on Veteran’s Day.
The Democrat, who earlier this year left the Hawaii Army National Guard for a California-based Army Reserve unit, posted a video to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon in which she said the best way to honor the service of veterans is to end “unnecessary wars and work for peace.”
“The best way to care for our war veterans is to stop creating more [wars],” Gabbard said. “The best way to honor those we’ve lost is to care for their families & those who have come home.”

Gabbard became the first female combat veteran to run for the Oval Office in the 2020 cycle, garnering some support across the political divide for her isolationist approach to foreign entanglements, though her campaign for the Democratic nomination gained little traction.
“To my fellow veterans, I love you and I am so proud and grateful to stand in your ranks across generations,” Gabbard said.
Gabbard said there are “too many” veterans struggling with homelessness and PTSD and that “every day should be a day where politicians understand that war should be a last resort.”
The four-term Hawaiian Democrat announced she would not seek reelection to the House in 2020.
