The man accused of trying to assassinate President Obama by shooting at the White House last month will remain in custody pending trial, a federal judge ruled Monday.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John Facciola ruled that 21-year-old Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez should continue to be detained, court records show.
Ortega-Hernandez is accused of firing at the White House with an assault rifle the evening of Nov. 11. The president and first lady were not home at the time of the shooting.
Ortega-Hernandez reportedly wanted to “hurt” Obama and referred to the president as “the anti-Christ” and “the devil,” according to court documents.
His attorney argued at a hearing Monday that prosecutors have not shown Ortega-Hernandez was the shooter or that Obama was his target, the Associated Press reports.
