Sarah Sanders won’t explain Trump’s Twitter silence over Stormy Daniels

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders stayed mum when pressed by reporters on President Trump’s silence since adult film star Stormy Daniels’ interview on “60 Minutes” Sunday night.

When asked why Trump hasn’t tweeted about Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, since her interview, when he’s been repeatedly touted as a “counterpuncher” during his political life, Sanders demurred.

“I didn’t say he punches back on every single topic. If he did, he would probably be addressing a lot of the stories that most of you write every single minute of every single day. He also has a country to run,” Sanders said.

“And he’s doing a great job with that. That’s why the economy is booming. ISIS is on the run. We’re remaking the judiciary. He is focused on pushing his agenda through. Sometimes he chooses to specifically engage and punch back and sometimes he doesn’t.”

Daniels told a national television audience details about her one-night stand with Trump that took place in 2007, shortly after Trump married first lady Melania Trump and the couple welcomed their son Barron into the world.

Daniels and Trump remained in communication for more than a year afterward as Trump promised to get her on a season of the “Celebrity Apprentice,” a promise that eventually went unfulfilled.

Sanders wouldn’t comment on whether Trump is being told by one of his lawyers to not speak about Daniels.

“That’s a question you would have to ask the president’s attorney. I certainly can’t speak for him. I can only speak on behalf of the White House,” Sanders said.

She added, “The president has denied the allegations. Anything beyond that, I would refer you to his outside counsel and his attorney, David Schwartz.”
