Republicans announce second immigration vote next week

The House will hold a second vote on immigration reform next week, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., confirmed Friday.

His announcement followed hours of negotiations within the Republican Party in an effort to develop a bill that can win a majority of votes. Leaders postponed a vote planned for Thursday after support fell short and then decided to change their initial plan to vote Friday in favor of next week.

“We have been working very closely with the entire conference, taking all ideas in,” McCarthy said. “We’ll work through the weekend and you’ll see that bill on the floor next week.”
