Mysteriously revealing

Baltimore native Paul Burk, an architectural photographer, displays his photos at the Load of Fun Galerie in Baltimore through June 22.

The exhibit, Self-Guided: Baltimore Photographs, features Burk?s pictures of locations he considers underappreciated in Baltimore.

The compositions include overpasses, abandoned warehouses and industrial sites, among other scenes.

“For me, the work is really about the phenomenon of city building, and what that implies,” the artist said. “There?s a lot of incongruity, because you see a layering of time and building styles and concepts. It?s an interesting tension. Unless you are looking hard, you won?t see these parts of Baltimore anywhere else. They are not the cliched views of the city that you?ve seen 100 times. These images are more challenging; it?s the stuff that?s all around us that?s easy to overlook.”

An opening reception will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Load of Fun Galerie, 120 W. North Ave., Baltimore. Visit paulburkphotography.com for more information.
