TRIAL ENDING FOR 2ND SEAN TAYLOR SLAYING SUSPECT

Trial is wrapping up for a second man accused of taking part in a botched 2007 Miami-area burglary that ended with the fatal shooting of Washington Redskins star safety Sean Taylor. Closing arguments were set Tuesday for 25-year-old Jason Mitchell, one of five men from the Fort Myers area charged with murder in the case. The alleged shooter, Eric Rivera Jr., was convicted last fall of second-degree murder and sentenced to 57 years behind bars.

MARISSA ALEXANDER BACK IN COURT

A Florida woman who received a lengthy sentence for firing what she claims was a warning shot during a fight with her estranged husband is back in court to argue she should have a second stand your ground hearing. Marissa Alexander is back in a Jacksonville courtroom on Tuesday. Alexander was convicted and sentenced to 20 years on charges that she fired a gun at Rico Gray and two of his children. She called it a warning shot.

AUDIT FLAGS PINELLAS COUNTY VA CENTER FOR REVIEW

The C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center is one of eight facilities in the region requiring further review as the result of a nationwide audit of Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers. The Young center, which used to be called Bay Pines VA Medical Center, was identified in an audit released by the Department of Veterans Affairs on Monday.

INMATE HANGS HIMSELF IN PANHANDLE JAIL

Authorities say an inmate at a Florida Panhandle jail hanged himself in his cell over the weekend. The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office reports that 39-year-old Jerry Jackie Kitchens of Seminary, Mississippi, was found dead Saturday evening by a corrections officer making a routine hourly inmate check. Officials say Kitchens was alone in the cell when he hanged himself with a bed sheet.

TERRORISM TRIAL IN TAMPA DRAWS TO A CLOSE

Prosecutors and defense attorneys have given closing arguments in the trial of a Kosovo-born American citizen accused of plotting a terrorist attack in Tampa. Attorneys gave their closing arguments Monday in federal court in Tampa. Judge Mary Scriven is scheduled to give jury instructions Tuesday, and then jurors will deliberate.
