Touchdown: Tony Romo agrees to largest sports analyst contract in history

Tony Romo agreed to a massive deal with CBS that will keep him as a sports analyst at the network for years to come.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback will get paid $17 million a year, up from the roughly $3 million he got last season, for at least three years and perhaps much more. The deal, reported by the New York Post, is the largest sports analyst contract in TV history.

Romo, 39, retired from the NFL after the 2016 season following a 14-year career. He was hired by CBS Sports and has been widely lauded for his performance off the field in the broadcast booth.

The new contract is more than double the previous record amount given to a sports analyst, John Madden, who received an $8 million salary more than two decades ago, not accounting for inflation.

CBS agreed to pay Romo the exorbitant sum before he became a free agent next month. ESPN was said to be willing to bid $20 million for Romo, although ESPN officials denied the number would be that high.
