Stop if you’ve heard this one before: A prominent Democrat has been found to have used a private email account to conduct public business. This time it was Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, who agreed to release 2,700 pages of heretofore unreleased emails on Wednesday. The Chicago Tribune notes that Emanuel’s behavior “allowed him to hide some of his correspondence from the public since he took office.”
While the newly released emails don’t appear to contain any yoga routines, there are some amusing nuggets contained therein. At one point, for example, the mayor submitted an op-ed to the Tribune. An editor wrote back rejecting the piece and declaring it “thematically unfocused” and “self-congratulatory.” (Would that political book editors had such stringent standards!)
But perhaps most notable is the domain name that Emanuel’s emails emanated from: Rahmemail.com. This of course is highly reminiscent of Hillary and Bill Clinton’s personal email server’s domain name, Clintonemail.com. However, according to the mayor’s office, Emanuel only set up a private email domain—there’s no secret server in the basement of his Chicago home.
It is striking, however, that a Clinton acolyte would ape his old boss’s email format. (Emanuel once served in Bill Clinton’s White House.) How widespread is this practice in ‘Clinton World’, one wonders? Right now, somebody might be crafting an email at Humaemail.com—or perhaps Weineremail.com.
