Authorities in Maryland said on Monday that they have “no idea” why a man allegedly killed 4 people, including gunning down his parents in their home, before killing himself.
Joshua Green, 27, killed his parents and fatally shot two others at a convenience store before setting fire to his apartment and killing himself on Sunday, Baltimore County Police said in a release sent to the Washington Examiner.
“As to why this occurred, we have no idea yet,” Baltimore County Police Col. Andre Davis said during a news conference. “Our homicide detectives are tirelessly investigating a motive, but it appears that the shooter acted alone.”
Police allege Green killed his parents — Douglas Green, 58, and Olivia Green, 62 — at their residence in Baltimore County before driving to a Royal Farms convenience store in Essex before 7 a.m. Sunday.

When he arrived, Green reportedly blocked a car in the store’s parking lot. He stepped out of the vehicle and fatally shot Alpha Smith, 62, while she sat in her car, according to a police readout.
Green allegedly entered the store, shot and killed Silvesta Daye, 43, and shoot and wounded a store employee. Authorities said the victim was a man who was sent to a medical facility and is in stable condition.
Following the shooting, Green reportedly returned to his nearby apartment and set it on fire before shooting himself. Police found the apartment in flames, and the suspect was found dead in a parking lot.
When homicide detectives went to the house of Green’s parents to notify of their son’s death, authorities found their bodies in the garage.
According to Davis, Green had “no criminal contacts with police” prior to the shooting.
Police Chief Melissa Hyatt said the case left “more questions than answers” and that investigators are still searching for a motive behind Green’s alleged shootings. She said she had spoken to relatives of Green but did not elaborate on their communication.

“For now, we know that four innocent people lost their lives and one person sustained serious injuries,” Hyatt said, adding, “When we are able to definitively have facts and information, we will relay that. We just want to make sure that we are putting out accurate information.”
