A Leesburg husband and wife are accused of running an unlicensed dentistry practice from their basement.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said 47-year-old Nelson A. Castro-Diaz and 35-year-old Matilde A. Lindarte-Vargas have been charged with practicing medicine without a license, which is a felony.

Authorities learned of the operation during an unrelated gang investigation, said Kraig Troxell, a sheriff’s office spokesman. A search warrant executed in late April at the couple’s home on the 1200 block of Tennessee Drive uncovered what appeared to be a “full-service dental office” in the basement, the sheriff’s office said.

Troxell said authorities believe the couple practiced unlicensed dentistry as far back as 2006. He said he’s not aware of anyone who has reported that they were harmed by procedures the couple performed.

Virginia Board of Dentistry records show no license, current or expired, for Castro-Diaz or Lindarte-Vargas.
