‘We have a right to be here’: Climate activists crash DNC summer meeting

Climate activists who want the Democratic National Committee to focus on climate change crashed the party’s summer meeting in San Francisco after they ran out of credentials for guests.

In videos posted on Twitter, the activists still tried to enter the meeting by pushing back security. Chants of “Let them in” could be heard.

One woman, who can be seen trying to usher people in as quickly as possible, tells a staffer, “We have the right to be here! This is the public!” while pushing him away.

Activists have been putting pressure on the DNC for them to host a debate between the 2020 presidential candidates that solely focuses on the issue of climate change.

Tensions in the meeting still continued after people were allowed in.

DNC Executive Committeewoman Christine Pelosi, the daughter of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, also suggested there will be other primary debates that will focus on one issue, such as guns, the economy, or national security.

CNN is hosting a climate change event with some of the Democratic candidates. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, whose campaign was mainly focused on fighting climate change and lobbied for such an event, will no longer participate since he dropped out of the race Wednesday.
