Man in wheelchair killed by motorcycle
An elderly man in a wheelchair died Sunday after he rolled into traffic and was struck by a motorcycle, a police source told The Examiner. The man, whose name wasn’t released publicly, apparently tried to beat the motorcyclist, who was in the oncoming lanes near the intersection of New York and North Capitol streets. The motorcyclist was driving slowly but couldn’t stop in time and struck and killed the man, the police source said. – Bill Myers
Police searching for leads in Manassas robbery
Two armed men robbed a check-cashing business in Manassas on Wednesday, tying up the clerk and leaving with an undisclosed amount of money, according to the Prince William County Police Department. One of the suspects tied up the clerk as another emptied the cash register in an 11 a.m. robbery at the store at 10394 Portsmouth Road. 7-year-old Lanham boy killed in car crash
A 7-year-old Lanham boy died Monday morning after the driver of the car he was in crashed on Landover Road in Cheverly, Prince George’s County police said. According to Cpl. Clinton Copeland, it appeared the driver, whose name was not released, was traveling at a “high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle” at about 12:15 a.m.
Jamari Greenwell, of the 8400 block of Hamlin Street in Lanham, died at a local hospital. Police are unsure whether he was wearing a seat belt.
Copeland said the car hit a median, a traffic light, a fire hydrant and a telephone pole before coming to rest near Kilmer Street. A second passenger is in critical condition. Police said five people were in the car. The accident is under investigation. – Daniel Fowler
