Conservative commentator S.E. Cupp declared Tuesday during a tense panel discussion on CNN that GOP front-runner Donald Trump will never be the Republican Party’s nominee.
Her remarks came just hours after the real estate mogul released a statement calling for the immediate halt to all Muslims trying to enter the United States. His proposal was spurred in part by a mass shooting last week in San Bernardino, California, which was carried out by two radicalized Islamic terrorists.
“Most Republicans find what Donald Trump said to be repulsive,” Cupp said Tuesday on CNN. “It’s repulsive morally. It’s repulsive if you cherish the Constitution. It’s repulsive if you’re a good conservative. It’s repulsive if you like freedom of religion. It’s repulsive on so many levels.”
“Frankly, I don’t know how Trump surrogates … can sleep at night peddling this unconstitutional, un-conservative and un-American garbage for a guy who — let’s face it — will never be president,” she added.
Though her comments prompted a broader discussion regarding Trump’s political fortunes and the merits of his latest proposal, she held firm, maintaining later in the debate: Trump will never get the party’s nomination.
