Christine Blasey Ford shut down a fundraising effort that began more than two months ago when she accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.
Ford, who alleges that Kavanaugh drunkenly groped her at a high school party in the 1980s when they were teenagers, raised $647,610 since September, surpassing her original goal of $150,000.
Ford made the public appeal for donations to pay for security measures amid safety and privacy concerns for her and her family after the research psychologist came forward with her allegation. Kavanaugh has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
In an open letter posted to her GoFundMe page last week, Ford said words were “not adequate” to describe her gratitude toward those who helped her “cope with the immeasurable stress.”
“Because of your support, I feel hopeful that our lives will return to normal,” she wrote. “Although coming forward was terrifying, and caused disruption to our lives, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to fulfill my civic duty.”
Ford said any money not spent on future security initiatives, including physical protection, would be given to “organizations that support trauma survivors.”
Kavanaugh was sworn in as the country’s 114th Supreme Court justice in October.
