Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan suggested President Trump is picking a fight with the NFL out of jealousy, as Trump’s bid to buy the Buffalo Bills failed in 2014.
“This is a very personal issue with him,” Khan told USA Today.
Trump continued his fight with the league over national anthem kneelers on Wednesday, tweeting, “Too much talk, not enough action. Stand for the National Anthem.”
Commissioner Roger Goodell said earlier Wednesday that the league believes everyone should stand for the anthem, but it would not force players to do so.
“He’s been elected President, where maybe a great goal he had in life to own an NFL team is not very likely,” said Khan, who bought the Jacksonville team in 2011. “So to make it tougher, or to hurt the league, it’s very calculated.”
He went on to say: “Here, it’s about money, or messing with — trying to soil a league or a brand that he’s jealous of.”
Khan gave $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund.
