‘Thinking strategically’: Democratic senator praises Chinese response to coronavirus

Sen. Gary Peters said the Communist Party of China had used strategic thinking to combat the coronavirus and that the United States should take note of its measures.

“You got to keep people working,” the Michigan Democrat said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe when asked how the U.S. can stop a depression from happening. “We saw that in China. Outside of Hubei province, a lot of the factories continued to work. They separated their employees. They had partitions. They found ways to continue to keep some of the economy going in other parts of the country that weren’t impacted as much as it was in Hubei.

“We’ve gotta be doing that same kind of thing here — thinking strategically. Dealing with the disease but also maintaining our economy so when we do get through it, it can come back up fairly quickly,” Peters added.

The comments come as whistleblowers within China say the party is faking the coronavirus recovery with businesses falsifying data to seem like production has continued at normal levels.

The coronavirus has killed over 3,000 people in China and infected at least 81,000 people, according to Johns Hopkins. China is now claiming it has not had a single new local case for two days in a row.
