Trump could surpass Obama’s 8-year travel spending in first year: Report

President Trump is on track to rack up more travel costs in his first year as president than President Barack Obama had during his eight years in office, CNN reported Tuesday.

According to estimates, Trump has racked up about $20 million in travel costs during his first 80 days in office. Obama’s total travel costs between 2009 and 2017 were about $97 million.

The baseline for the estimate is a Government Accountability Office reported from 2016 a four-day trip Obama took to Florida cost about $3.6 million.

Trump has spent six weekends at his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach, Fla. During his time as president. If he keeps up a similar pace throughout the rest of the year, Trump would likely surpass Obama’s total sometime in 2017.

The report states Trump’s visits to Florida may slow in coming months as Florida heats up during the summer. He may instead start visiting New York City and his home in Trump Tower, where first lady Melania Trump and his son, Baron, still live. Trump also has his Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey not far away.

Trump was critical of Obama’s travel habits during his time as president.
