Development and city officials are promoting two historic corridors as home to the District’s hottest new development sites with more than 70 projects available for enterprising developers and architects.
Officials from the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development and the Washington, DC Economic Partnership hosted a tour this week along 7th Street-Georgia Avenue and 14th Street N.W. The officials were joined by local business owners, community activists and real estate brokers.
“The tour passed through four different wards and more than 14 neighborhoods highlighting over 70 available opportunities along the way, including major mixed-use developments with opportunities for small local businesses to lease space at below-market rates,” the news release says.

Georgia Avenue welcomes approximately 27,700 commuters by car every day and serves as a hub linking several nearby neighborhoods. According to a city survey of local businesses, more than 30 new businesses have opened along the corridor and surrounding neighborhoods over the past couple of years. The business owners cited affordability, access to Maryland and District residents, a solid customer base and the opportunity to be a part of a neighborhood as reasons that influenced their decision to open their business on the corridor.
City officials plan on conducting future tours in other neighborhoods throughout the District to promote development.
