Tucker Carlson said it would be “pathetic” if Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s final words were about delaying the appointment of a new Supreme Court justice.
“Keep in mind, we don’t really know actually what Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s final words were,” Carlson said Monday on Fox News. “Did she really leave this world fretting about a presidential election? We don’t believe that for a second. If it were true, it would be pathetic because life is bigger than politics, even this year. We wouldn’t wish final words that small on anyone.”
Contrary to Carlson’s arguments, the report he is referring to did not claim that Ginsburg’s last words were about this issue. It claims that she made the statement in the days before her death.
NPR had a conversation with Ginsburg’s granddaughter, where she claimed that, in a dictated statement, the justice told her, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
The president has also expressed uncertainty about the validity of the statement, telling Fox & Friends on Monday, “I don’t know that she said that, or was that written out by Adam Schiff and Schumer and Pelosi? I would be more inclined to the second.”
