Speaker’s office: Doctored video shows State ‘misled’ public

House Speaker Paul Ryan’s office said Wednesday that the State Department’s admission that it selectively edited a press briefing video about the Iran nuclear agreement shows the Obama administration was intent on misleading U.S. citizens about that deal.

“This is further evidence that the administration misled the American public in selling the Iran deal,” said Ryan spokesman Doug Andres.

“Whether it’s spinning reporters from the West Wing or doctoring press conference footage at the State Department, this administration can’t hide the fact that this is a bad deal for the United States and our allies,” he added.

State admitted that a video of a 2013 press briefing was purposefully edited to remove a discussion about the Iran deal. The section that was cut showed a spokeswoman seeming to admit that officials might sometimes not tell the truth about international negotiations.

The spokeswoman in the video, who is now White House Communications Director Jen Psaki, has said she had nothing to do with the decision to clip the video.
