Megyn Kelly: Noting Biden’s ‘cognitive decline’ important for ‘factual reporting’

Former Fox News and NBC journalist Megyn Kelly said it is important for reporters to note Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s perceived cognitive decline.

In the first episode of the former TV anchor’s podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly discussed the subject with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald, who reported on United States surveillance activities based on documents provided by Edward Snowden. Greenwald said Democrats made arguments against Biden’s cognitive capabilities in 2018 and 2019.

“I feel like, as a matter of factual reporting, you cannot deny he’s in cognitive decline. I think it’s OK to talk about, and I think it’s pretty clear,” Kelly said, later playing a clip of Biden appearing incoherent.

“It’s honestly sad,” Greenwald said. “A lot of the people who are kind of the guardians of the Democratic Party were saying this is such a lowlife, below-the-belt tactic to raise this.”

Greenwald said there are multiple examples of Democratic strategists and operatives questioning whether Biden “has the mental capacity to run a campaign.” He cited specific examples in which the Housing and Urban Development secretary under former President Barack Obama criticized Biden’s memory and Sen. Cory Booker questioned his cognitive capability.

“There are definitely moments when you listen to Joe Biden and you just wonder,” Booker said. The New Jersey Democrat didn’t criticize Biden’s age, but he said it was a noticeable pattern over the years.

“They were petrified that Biden was going to become the nominee and be so obviously incapable,” Greenwald said, noting the social-distancing protocols due to the coronavirus enabled him to have limited press contact in his “basement.”
