A man who allegedly tried to burglarize an Annandale tax consulting firm was arrested Thursday after he ran into a door inside the business and knocked himself out, Fairfax County police said Friday.
Michael Edward Crookston, 44, who has no fixed address, reportedly broke into Shapiro Tax Consultant on Maple Place that afternoon through a locked door, police spokeswoman Officer Camille Neville said.
Crookston, allegedly armed with a hammer, encountered a 24-year-old man inside the business, Neville said. After a struggle, the 24-year-old fled to another room and closed a door behind him. Crookston pursued him — right into the door, Neville said.
Police later arrived at the scene to find Crookston semi-conscious on the floor. After being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Crookston was charged with burglary and simple assault, and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
