Pakistani minister accidentally livestreamed press briefing with ‘cat filter’

The Pakistani Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai was ridiculed after his social media team inadvertently turned on the “cat filter” during a Facebook livestream of a press briefing.

Facebook users watching the briefings notified the social media team of their mistake.

“Shaukat Yousafzai looks like a cat — Meow meow meow,” one user said.

“A cat in the cabinet,” another said.

While the stream was deleted minutes after the briefing, internet users took screen shots of the livestream to make fun of the minister.

The PTI, the ruling party in Pakistan, issued a statement on their Twitter account that said their “social media team is deemed to be the pioneers of Social Media in Pakistan” but said the “cat filter” was a “human error” which was not up to their standards and etiquette.

“All necessary actions have been taken to avoid such incident in future,” the PTI said. The added they would put “great emphasis” on enforcing their protocol.

Yousafzai is the regional minister in northwestern Pakistan.
