MoCo council chief against more time off for workers

Montgomery County Council President Nancy Floreen tells The Washington
Examiner
she doesn’t support additional leave time for county employees —

yet another council member to balk over County Executive Ike Leggett’s plan.

“We have already asked county taxpayers to foot a bigger bill,” she said,

referencing around $250 in new taxes for residents this year. “I don’t see

how we can afford this.”

Executive officials awarded firefighters 48 more hours off next year and

police officers and general government employees, an extra 26 hours.

However, council members argue the deals are subject to their approval.

Leggett has said the extra leave time is necessary to offset pay freezes and

cost-of-living increases not honored by the council.
