Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a Michigan Democrat and member of the left-leaning group known as The Squad, has become the latest member of Congress to test positive for COVID-19.
“After not feeling well over the weekend, I took an at-home and PCR test. I am home quarantining and recovering,” Tlaib tweeted on Monday. “Please stay safe, everyone.”

“This is a stark reminder that we are not out of this pandemic,” Tlaib said in a tweet on her account. “Thankfully, I am vaccinated & boosted.”
Tlaib did not attend the Michigan Democratic Party convention on Saturday out of an abundance of caution, according to the Detroit News. She did speak to the convention through a recorded video.
Tlaib appeared at the White House twice last week for events related to the Affordable Care Act and a postal reform bill. She also posed with President Joe Biden while at the event. Biden tested negative on Monday, according to the White House.

Several politicians have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last week. Positive tests within Washington, D.C., appear to have originated with the Gridiron Dinner, an event on April 2 where hundreds of D.C. journalists, lawmakers, and employees met for dinner. An estimated 67 COVID-19 cases had been reported among the event’s attendees as of Saturday.
Reps. Adam Schiff and Joaquin Castro announced on Tuesday they had contracted the coronavirus after attending the dinner. Reps. Katherine Clark and Scott Peters announced they, too, had tested positive, although they had not appeared at the dinner.
Attorney General Merrick Garland and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo also reported testing positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. Raimondo was a main speaker at the Gridiron dinner.

New York City mayor Eric Adams also reported testing positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
