Ruth Bader Ginsburg to resume working out next week, after cracking three ribs

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is planning to resume working out next week, after she was hospitalized and diagnosed with three fractured ribs last week, according to a new report.

Bryant Johnson, Ginsburg’s personal trainer, told Vox that the Supreme Court justice will begin her biweekly workouts again next week, although her standard workout will be modified temporarily.

“With three cracked ribs, I won’t have her on the elliptical right away,” Johnson said. “My warm up will be gentler — and then we’ll adjust accordingly. When she gets stronger, we’ll resume the regular workouts.”

“[She’s] gone through peaks and valleys, and it’s not the first time she’s broken her ribs,” Johnson said. “She’s tough as nails.”

Ginsburg, who has been treated for colon cancer and pancreatic cancer, experienced rib injuries in 2012 and 2013.

She is known for her workouts, particularly after late night host Stephen Colbert shared a video of himself working out with her earlier this year.

Last Wednesday, Ginsburg fractured three ribs after she fell in her office and was treated at George Washington University Hospital. She was discharged from the hospital on Friday, and a spokesperson for the Supreme Court said Ginsburg was working from home on Tuesday.

Ginsburg was nominated by former President Bill Clinton and has been on the Supreme Court for 25 years.
